Homemade Maple Butter Spread
This recipe for home-made maple butter has many uses and is especially delicious on pancakes, waffles, french toast, oatmeal, scones, muffins, sliced bread, rolls, biscuits, buns, banana bread, cornbread, and sweet potatoes.
Ingredients:
2/3 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
Optional: pinch of cinnamon (or 1 stick of cinnamon added to saucepan and then removed when removing pan from heat)
Optional: 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Optional: maple extract for additional maple flavor
Simmer the maple syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Watch it closely as it may tend to bubble up and overrun; if it starts to bubble, momentarily remove from heat. After 7 to 10 minutes, remove pan from heat and allow to cool for 15 minutes. Then, pour the maple syrup into a cool bowl and allow temperature to cool until lukewarm, about 30 minutes. Add softened butter and stir until creamy and well blended. Serve at room temperature and enjoy the rich and yummy goodness!
