How to Determine Facial Shape – Celebrity Face Shapes
Your facial shape is often the key to finding, among other things, the most flattering haircut and sunglasses. If you have trouble seeing what shape your face is the following should help.
Pull your hair back from your face and look in the mirror. Focus on only the outline of your face. What shape does it primarily resemble?
If you’re still unsure, take a “head shot” photo looking straight into the camera (full face forward). Again, your hair should be pulled back from your face. Use that photo to trace the outline of your face, from chin to top of forehead, around cheeks and jawline. (You can do this on tracing paper or just print the photo if it is digital and trace it directly.) This should help to reveal your face shape.
The celebrity names (below) link to example photos that I believe adequately illustrate the various face shapes. Be sure to click on them to get more of an idea.
Keep in mind that your face may have certain traits from various categories, but there will likely be one shape that fits more than the others.
The height of your face is about 1.5 times greater than the width. Oval shapes have rounded edges. Your forehead is slightly wider than your chin. Most oval shapes have high cheekbones.
The width and length of your face are essentially equal, and your cheeks and chin are rounded. Round faces have few to no angles.
The width and length of the face are essentially equal. Broad forehead and a strong jawline. Chin is wide as are cheekbones. (If longer, the shape is referred to as a rectangle…just as it is in geometry.)
An oblong face is much longer than it is wide. Chin and cheeks are close in width.
Heart shapes have a broad forehead and cheekbones, tapering to a narrow (and often pointed) chin. High cheekbones.
The diamond shape is just that…a diamond. Wide cheeks with a narrow forehead and narrow jawline.
A pear shape face is basically the opposite of heart shape face. It is recognized by the full / wide jawline and narrow forehead. Just as it is with a pear shaped figure or a pear itself, a pear shaped face is fuller on the bottom than the top.
