DIY Homemade Food-Safe Conditioner Butter for Wood
This fabulous do-it-yourself recipe for wood butter can be used to condition wood items such as cutting boards, spoons and other utensils, as well as furniture. Before using conditioning butter, it is advised to test the wood object in an inconspicuous spot.
Making this wood butter recipe is simple: One part beeswax and two parts food-grade mineral oil, along with a few drops of pure, unadulterated essential oil of lavender and/or rosemary if desired.
Chop beeswax and add it to the mineral oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir with wood skewer, chopstick or popsicle stick. Once the beeswax has been dissolved, place mixture in a jar for storage, stirring in a few drops of lavender and/or rosemary essential oil if desired.
Before using: Reheat to soften if desired by placing jar in pan of hot water or for short bursts in the microwave. Allow to cool until slightly solidified but still warm. Apply generously and rub into the wood; allow to sit for ten to twenty minutes; then buff with microfiber cloth.
